As our tour progressed I went from Shanghai to Beijing to Xian to Shanghai and in every town we visited I saw ancient sites juxtaposed with contemporary landmarks and I was left simply amazed. The only music I was listening to was from the time; the only reference I was making to the past was the music that played in the background of the tour.
This mindset developed into an album, Rocks that the Chinese have been listening to. I sampled, I recorded, I wrote and I recorded. Each song reflects a place, an event or a thought. It's a record that details a journey from Shanghai to Beijing and finally back to the city where it all started.
I've always believed that when we are on a journey we are on a musical journey and this album explores the journey that China has taken and will take in the coming years. To make the album I sampled and recorded everything from classical music to jazz, funk, hip hop, blues and rock. I wrote the lyrics and arranged the music. The whole process was organic. We recorded and produced the album in one week.
